Hey Vietnam Vets, help me out. My memory
is failing. I like these photos but I can't remember any good stories to go with
them. Any memorable events these photos bring to mind that you care to
pass along would be greatly appreciated.

Sand
Bag Detail |

If
death and taxes are an inevitability in the civilian world, to the
junior enlisted man in Vietnam, filling sandbags could also be
added to the list. There was a never ending need for sandbags.
Filling sandbags was often used as a form of punishment but just
as often, everyone would be required to join in. |

In-Country
R&R |
| The
highlight of every serviceman's experience in Vietnam was
R&R (rest and relaxation--in the civilian world it's known
as a vacation). For every thirteen month tour of duty, we
received two R&Rs, one in country and one out of country.
The in-country R&R for Marines was at China Beach, south of
Da Nang. I remember very little of the facility itself--I was
falling down drunk most of the time. |

Road-side
laundry stand |
| We
could always tell when the Army moved in because these places popped
up everywhere. They not only did laundry, they sold sodas and
gave haircuts. |
