The Rains Came

After two back-breaking weeks of digging trenches for protection from rockets and small arms fire in the hottest weather imaginable, the first rain I had seen in Vietnam came.  To call it a downpour would be a gross understatement.  The rain lasted less than an hour but all of our work was rendered useless.  The trenches overflowed and started to crumble and cave in.  Instead of being upset, kids that we were, we all thought it hilarious and decided to go swimming.
