Better than a 'Vette
This thing was called an Ontos. If a Corvette was a nineteen year old kid's dream toy in the civilian world, then this was his ultimate dream toy in Vietnam. As much fun as it was to drive and blow holes in everything. It had one very unpleasant drawback--it was built with very lightweight armor. The common wisdom among the Ontos crew was that they better get the first shot off or there might not be a second. Any gun of any size--even a pistol--could penetrate the lightweight steel and with a large amount of gasoline on board they were known to go up like a volcano. More than one Ontos crew met with a very ugly death.
